Thanks a lot... Hope everything is ok... Btw, do u know if the Brazilian community is organizing something on Monday 1st, if they're planning to participate in the boycott?
Thanks,Melissa
Yes. ASCOMBRA ( www.ascombra.org) and many members and groups of the Brazilian international community are united with the call for a Boycott and Work Stoppage on May 1st.
Please see below.
NOTES: Reports of additional activities ... such as rallies and marches ... are mostly rumors and seen as independent activities of a few mostly non-Brazilians trying to use the name of the Brazilian community for activities NOT agreed to by Allianza 17 de Marzo committee.
ASCOMBRA and most members of the Brazilian community have clearly joined WITH the Allianza 17 of Marzo in unity with the same call for action on May 1st.
The appearance of any disharmony and disunity is actually the work of a few ... mostly non Brazilian individuals. The unity ASCOMBRA and most Brazilians feel for the Allianza 17 of Marzo call for actions can be witnessed through the ONLY group that has been working hard to be a representative community group of the Brazilian in Atlanta and Georgia.
This is ASCOMBRA see: www.ASCOMBRA.org.
As some of us witnessed ourselves last night there is strong desire for unity between all immigrants which include Hispanics, Brazilians ... all Latinos as well as all other immigrants. Any displays of disunity which are bound to occur in the developing stages of the national unity movement for immigration reform ... especially when one group joins another. Even language differences and basic communication can be problems.
Yet there is no actual divide between the Allianca 17 or Marzo and vast majority of the Brazilians community as the messages and public calls are clearly identical to the call by the Allianza 17 of Marzo.
FINAL NOTE: It is my personal theory that last night, on April 28th, 2006, a few vocal advocates (who are actually not offical members of the official Allianza 17 of March steering committee) were attempting, unsuccessfully I should add, to USE the name of the Brazilian community pointing to a very few (six) inexperience but motivated Brazilians for their own purposes. These attempts were meant to do additional activities that were opposed to and counter the agreed to plans and calls for action by the Allianza 17 or Marzo. Again ... nearly all of these were non Brazilians and it was consider outrageous by several.
Fortunately this transparent attempt failed and only a few Brazilians will be likely to act independently with actions that go beyond the Allianza 17 or March agreed upon action as listed below in Portuguese and Spanish (see attached) as agreed to by ASCOMBRA.
Finally it should be carefully noted that all present supported the right of each person to express their own ideas with the freedoms they are provided with 1st Amendment of the Constitution of the US ... and this was respected by all without exception.
The official call to action of May 1st by the Allianza 17 de Marzo and ASCOMBRA follow below ...
